2016 Tutor Research Symposium - Georgia State University
The day long, tutor research symposium at Georgia state university on March 26 brought together administrators, professional tutors, and graduate and undergraduate tutors from several writing centers, including from university of North Georgia, Kennesaw state university, Agnes Scott college, and Georgia tech. The symposium took place at GSU's new home for their Writing Studio, the old SunTrust building, and overlooks downtown Atlanta. Presentations included research on tutoring strategies in learning centers in multiple disciplines and compared findings to the university's writing center; application of language sensitive to students' gender identity in post-session reports written by writing tutors; and a discussion on multimodal communication strategies used to advertise a writing center. Last, but not least, Dr. Beth Burmester from Georgia State University concluded the symposium with a workshop on how to use films to prepare tutor for the work they do at the writing center. Special thanks to Georgia State University and its amazing staff who made this conference possible!
